Get Your Own Domain Name
WHY DO I NEED A DOMAIN NAME?
An Internet domain name is a unique web address that you can purchase for your web site through a domain name registrar. It could contain your business name: http://www.yourbusinessname.com, or most any other word/letter combination that you want, based upon availability.
Your own domain name:
Gives Exclusivity
No one else can have that name. Of course you can buy the example.com, and the example.net and .org extensions, too, just to make sure no one else confuses one with the other.
Adds Credibility
It tends to say to others that you are serious about your business, that you are operating an established business, in a professional manner (even if you’re operating out of your bedroom at home, much of the time in your pajamas). Free subdomain names, such as yourname.blogspot.com do not inspire confidence that your site will be around for a long time as the service may be terminated by the host or that you can move on to another free site.
Allows Mobility
In case you decide to switch web hosts, you can take your name with you. It’s much like having the same residential address — you can tear down the building and build another type of building but your address will remain the same. You can have the option of switching web hosts and keeping the same web address so your customers and site visitors can find you every time.
Avoids Loss of Momentum
As any web marketer knows, it takes effort and sometimes a lot of expense to promote a web site. Those efforts can build momentum, bringing more and more traffic to your site without any additional effort or expense. But if you cannot take your web address with you when you switch hosts, especially if you signed up initially with the free site – free subdomain option, you can lose much – if not all – of the momentum gained by your previous efforts at promoting your site.
Personal Email Address
When you have your own domain name, you also get an email address with that same domain, and do not have to use a public email service such as gmail.com or yahoo.com, unless you choose to. This gives your business a more professional appeal.
