SEO Tricks When Building Your Site
4. Page Titles
Also think carefully about the titles of your pages. These are the words that appear in the browser window and are very, very important. In fact, think of each web page as a whole website in itself because all the when the search engines scan that page the same way they do the home page.
In other words, they will look at the Page Title, Page Description, Keyword Meta Tags to a certain extent, the number of sites linking to that page (which determines the Google Page Rank Factor, too), the keywords there in.
So make your title relevant. Select titles that are logical and that you think customers are likely to search for. Do not wax poetic over your page titles. Be as direct to the point as you can. The page titles are what really count from a customer’s point of view. The titles hook their attention and draw them into the surrounding text, maximizing the chance that they will spend more time exploring your site.
I once made that mistake. I wanted a page that said Best Times to Visit Baguio but I chose the page url text link baguio-for-all-seasons.html. Then every time I (or anyone else for that matter) would link that page up the title did not really match the text link.
As with keywords, make your page title use the long tail once again. For example, instead of simply using the title “Hotels,” use “Best (City) Hotel Locations” and “Hotels, Inns and Resorts” just in case some folks include in their key phrases location or other types of lodging.
5. Original Content.
Ever hear this phrase “Unique Content is King?” It’s so true! The search engines hate duplicate content, and this can harm your ranking. In fact, sites are penalized for using duplicate content.
As for your customers, no one will appreciate content that is available elsewhere, or pages repeating the same information. That makes your website uber-boring and simply unimaginative.
So do not even think you can, without going to ‘war’ with another publisher, violate someone’s copyright by doing a copy/paste of his words or even photos. That’s simply is cheating and there are programs, such as Copyscape that webmasters use to check if anyone is plagiarizing their work.
Since this site is all about building your website, and making money off it, then know that a lot of originality is required of you.
Search engine optimisation is a vital strategy for improving your site’s ranking in search results. A higher position in a search engine list means more visits to your site. It means you will save on (or even avoid) advertising expenses for get more visitors to your site. A SEO rank means your site is more unique, more custom.
